Q: What is SEO?
A: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to the tasks performed to make sure a website is seen by search engines and therefore seen by search engine users.  It incorporates a myriad of tasks performed in unison to make a website more relevant to the product or services the site is selling and more authoritative on the topics surrounding those products or services.  A well-designed SEO Campaign is broken into two types of tasks – On-site and Off-site.

Q: What’s the difference between SEO and SEM?

A: Search Engine Marketing (SEM) can refer to all types of website marketing, including SEO.  Some also use it to refer more specifically to the paid components of promoting a website, such as pay-per-click marketing.  At SpyderShare, we keep the terms separate for simplicity’s sake.

Q: What’s the difference between paid and organic search listings?

A: A paid search listing is shown in the top slots on a search engine results page when specific keywords relevant to that listing are searched, and are usually highlighted with a colored background and a very small note to say they are ads.  The advertiser pays money to have their website listed in these results.  Organic search results are generated by the algorithm of the Search Engine and are based on a myriad of factors such as the number and relevance of sites linking in and whether the site’s content is updated on a regular basis.  Different search engines rank their organic results with varied weighting of different factors so it is important to have a well-rounded SEO Campaign.

Q: What is on-site SEO?

A: On-site SEO encompasses the details of the site’s content and user-friendliness including the site’s design as well as HTML coding and internal linking structure.  Optimizing these things requires careful attention to the keyword density of the site’s content, including the language used in the meta details of the title tags and meta descriptions.

Q: What is off-site SEO?

A: Off-site SEO includes all the tasks that are performed to give your website presence on the internet, which in turn gives your site more authority relative to your products and services.  These are things like creating backlinks and making sure the website is listed in online directories so search engines (and search engine users) can easily find the website.  Continued content updates are also important.

Q: How quickly will SpyderShare show me results?
A: It’s important to understand that SEO is an ongoing process and it does take about three months or so to really evaluate the Campaign’s results.  However, SpyderShare realizes that a client would like to understand where their money is being spent and it’s hard to wait three months for results.  Therefore, SpyderShare will deliver monthly reports outlining the work we’ve performed and details surrounding your site’s traffic.  This way, as the first three months progress, you gain an understanding of our process and how SEO is working for you.
